Serie Doméstica
Serie Doméstica (2017) shows the ambiguous relationships created by domestic work. Rooted in the colonial legacy of servilism, Indigenous and Afro-Ecuadorian women have been historically employed by Mestizo-European women to perform domestic chores.
In this series, I photograph three domestic workers Diana, Olga and Cynthia and their employer’s daughters in the ‘service room.’ I recursively photographed and intervened the pictures by sowing, tearing and ironing the prints. This process represents how labor and the intimate mix in the home, distorting and entangling these women’s relationships.
